Kiam Robertson is as a teacher, singer, songwriter, and conservationist on the Central Coast, N.S.W, Australia, and says his main passion in life is to reconnect people to their natural habitat. "The key is finding what you're passionate about", Kiam says as he discusses his background and why he is so passionate about the conservation of flora and fauna species, even down to the weeds.

He was born on the 28th day of August 1979. Greatly influenced by his mother's teachings, at an early age she introduced him to the spirit of the universe by connecting him to his habitat, and guiding his intuition through the practise of Wicca and the teachings of Jesus Christ. He now believes that combining these two teachings gave him a thorough understanding of his "human nature" through nature itself.

Due to his mother's nomadic lifestyle, he learned to affiliate with people as associates, always knowing that the "unexpected" change was just around the corner and it would inevitably alter the environment around him.

"Growing up I felt displaced in the schooling system and amongst other people too, but I was always willing to accept their views and opinions", states Kiam.

"I must've attended at least six different primary schools". From these childhood experiences, he learned that you must adapt to your surroundings in order to survive.

Kiam's uncle taught him how to play the guitar at the age of nine and rewarded him with a semi acoustic Ibanez after a year of showing how passionate and dedicated he was to learning the instrument. "My uncle was the musical influence in my life, God rest his soul", Kiam says reflecting on his past. "He taught me that if I was upset about something in my life, or with a situation that wasn't quite right, not to get mad about it, just grab a guitar and write a song about it", he says laughing jovially at the end of his sentence.

Thirsting for knowledge, he left home at the age of twelve and decided to live with his stepbrother in the western suburbs of Sydney where he began learning about life, the hard way. "These were interesting times", Kiam ponders, "I realised quickly that the people around me were more interested in their "social lives" as opposed to looking out for one another", and describes this as the "dark" period of his life. He finishes school and moves out in 1995 soon after being hospitalised by a stepbrother.

Due to his age and circumstances, he was unable to receive government assistance, so in order to earn a dollar he would busk on the streets of his birthplace, work lunches in soup kitchens and if all else failed by the end of the day, resort to sleeping on the streets. "Living in a world where you think no one cares about you is a scary place", says Kiam. "You never know where your next meal is coming from, whether you will have a roof over your head...but that's when I learned one of life's most pivotal lessons, that in order to survive, we must first learn to work together".

From that point, he made allies with other musicians, learned how to play instruments such as the drums, bass, piano, and played in countless bands across Australia. "I needed to make money in between gigs so I did just about everything you can imagine to make money, apart from selling my soul" Kiam jokes as he describes how he is a jack of all trades and a king of none.

A few years later, he began to teach music and worked as a sales clerk for the biggest music retail store in Australia. Ten years on, he owns a studio and works for himself. He now volunteers most of his time to charity events and to Equilibrium Future Solutions whilst teaching, writing and recording music.

Through trials and tribulation, Kiam Robertson has realised that everything and everyone, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is aligned with what he calls "the source", and believes that by reconnecting people to their true environment we can start to change our perspective on the way we view and treat our surrounding habitat.
