The Sustainable Orchard Project - Somersby (2006/2007)

This project demonstrated a sustainable system of food production that does not rely on high input land management practices like many modern agricultural systems.

The demonstration site, located at the Somersby Horticulture and Agriculture Research Centre, was an important learning tool for farmers, environmentalists, and government bodies, and was accessible via a series of workshops and field days designed to educate participants on the concepts and principles of natural food production systems.

Some of the on-ground works were completed by work experience participants in Youth Connections Inc. ‘Connectors' program as part of their Transition to Work activities.

This project was supported by the Hunter-Central Rivers Catchment Management Authority via the National Landcare Program, and the Department of Primary Industries.
